in the spirit of fun and solidarity with my officemates, i have taken up a new hobby – playing soccer. that's right, soccer. people who know me well would be surprised to hear that. i was never sporty spice as i wrote in one of my previous entries. i had no idea of the mechanics of a soccer game; had never watched a game save for that in the film 'bend it like beckham'; had never played it before. but scared of being tagged as too strait-laced, i gave in to my officemates' requests.
so now, every tuesday afternoon after work, my colleagues in the sales team and the IT department would go to the nearest park and treat ourselves in a game of soccer. it's a good way to break the monotony of our work. it's something to look forward to at the end of the day.
in the ball field, we are all equal –no ranks, no seniority. we play rough with each other –men vs. women, boss vs. staff. we kick the ball, defend our posts and chase each other like little kids on the loose. and, after two games, i was able to do a number of steals, secure one goal and provide good defensive work to my team. i have also injured one of my male colleagues by elbowing him in the rib (can you believe that?) and there's a big chance i might just get the rookie of the year award. haha!
i have never been so proud of myself!
